Additional Information

Honda's flagship snowblower combines legendary Honda power with groundbreaking technologies that put effortless control at your fingertips. A unique hybrid system utilizes two computer controlled electric motors in the track drive system, while the ultra robust GX390, 4-stroke, overhead valve (OHV) Honda engine powers the auger and the blower. It's a powerful combination, but Honda's automated i-control system tames that brute force and takes the effort out of even the most difficult snow clearing situations.

This 12 VDC electric start snowblower clears a 36 in (92 cm) path, throws snow up to 19 m (62 ft)* and is capable of moving 83 metric tons (91 tons)* of snow per hour. The HSM1336iC makes smooth and precise turns with a light squeeze of the handlebar controls and features a 24 VDC (40 watt) work light to light large work areas. Even when snow loads vary, engage the i-control system and let the HSM1336iC regulate optimum speed and automatically complete repetitive tasks like raising the auger when reverse is engaged.

The best way to break down the numerous product features of the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower is to describe them via five major categories: operability, ease of work, toughness, noise/vibration, and fuel economy. The following diagram outlines these key features as they relate to the individual categories. In the following pages of this section, each feature is individually detailed with graphics to depict corresponding benefits.

Operability

Turning on the spot. Two independent electric motors that control propulsion are positioned in parallel on the HS1336i. These two motors contribute to smooth turning of the snowblower when in operation. At low speeds, an operator can turn the HS1336i on the spot, and at high speeds, the snowblower can be turned smoothly on a curve. The turning radius of the snowblower is actually controlled by how forcefully the operator grips the hand lever control* (see illustration).
Auto-choke. Because the iGX390 four-stroke engine powering the HS1336i is equipped with an auto choke (a choke that automatically controls the flow of air to the carburetor), starting operation is simplified, regardless of the atmospheric or engine temperature.

Operability

External lever. The choke shaft of the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower can be easily operated – even when the carburetor is frozen – with a single press of the external lever.

Snow clearing mode. The Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower is designed with a three-mode switching function that allows the operator to manage a variety of situations and conditions. The auto mode, power mode and manual mode options are available only on the new hybrid system (as compared to conventional models) in which the snowblower 's motive power comes from the electric motor and the actual snow throwing is performed via the power offered by the iGX390 four-stroke engine

Operability

Reset mechanism for vertical movement of the auger. Two-stage machines (like the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower) are self-propelled using either large wheels or tracks. The term ‘two-stage ' means that there are two mechanisms used to move the snow – the auger and the impeller. The auger feeds the snow to the high-speed impeller where the impeller blows the snow out of the machine. In the event that this feed is disrupted, the design of the Honda HS1336i hybrid allows the operator to reset the vertical movement of the auger so that it can revert to its normal position (as the below diagram illustrates).

Operability

Rear cover. On the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower, the rear cover is integrated with the tool box, allowing for an easy-access, wide opening through which the operator can pull out or put away any implement needed.

Ease of Function

Rolling function. Regardless of the gradient of the snow surface, the auger housing of the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower can be adjusted to slant up to seven degrees either to the right or left – resulting in the blower throwing snow to create a level surface.

Ease of Function

Auger lift mechanism. When the operator of the Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower puts the machine into reverse, the auger housing automatically moves up (to avoid getting caught in the snow). When the operator puts the snowblower back into forward gear, the auger housing automatically moves down (back into its previous operating position) and is ready to throw snow.
Toughness

Icing Guard. The Honda HS1336i hybrid snowblower is equipped with an icing guard that helps prevent the carburetor from freezing in cold temperatures. This is accomplished via an air guide that directs heat from the engine to warm the carburetor.
Toughness

Self-diagnostic monitoring. The Honda HS1336i is designed with an easy-to-read diagnostic monitor that alerts the operator when a system failure occurs. Through either flashing or steady lights, the operator is made aware of a number of different conditions: motor failure, control failure, engine function, charging abnormality, voltage drop or low oil level (see below illustration).
Noise/Vibration

iGX390 engine. The low noise and low vibration of the Honda HS1336i is attributable to the power provided by the Honda iGX390 – a revolutionary, intelligent, computer-controlled general purpose engine that sets an even higher standard for ease of use, fuel efficiency, and quiet operation. This (OHV) horizontal shaft engine incorporates an electronic self-tuning regulator (STR) governor along with additional, advanced technologies for more complex applications. The iGX390 also features an integrated electronic control unit (ECU) that delivers complete drive-by-wire remote control capability and controls key aspects of engine operation.

Fuel Economy

iGX390 engine. iGX technology results in lower fuel consumption and lower noise through reduced total engine running time and engine speed that can be lowered based on power demands. This intelligent technology works in conjunction with the new engine 's V-type valve layout and spark plug center combustion chamber to yield a fuel economy improvement of approximately 19 percent compared to the previous Honda GX390 engine. The engine also incorporates an improved inner muffler construction and has the best ignition timing for its class.
